For some reason—with designer everything—no one has ever thought to make designer tents. These tents by Field Candy are just that. Unless you are camping in a spot with grizzly bears, why not have a tent that stands out?

Have you seen these amazing rugs by Youlka Designs of France? They are pure eye candy, and I'm sure any kids would just love to take all the pieces out (and never put them back in!). So while I'm tempted, I think it'd be a housekeeping nightmare.
But function follows form, right? Right.
I know we just passed Mother's Day and there really is no gift-giving holiday in the very near future, but I thought these wrapping ideas all using butcher paper were post-worthy.

I love the tromp l'oeil affect on this chalkboard cabinet. It's a much better application than just chalking on a grocery list.

When I saw this photo of Shanghai built from cheap plastic containers (made by artist Bang-Yao Liu), it got me thinking about the plethora of ways to craft with ho-hum plastic containers and everyday items. (Found via Design Boom.)
Honestly, these are two of the cutest executions of plastic flowers I have ever seen. Yes, those tulips are made from plastic spoons! And the others from plates and cups! Brilliant. (I wish I could give credit where credit is due, but I found this image via Google Images and when I clicked on it, it took me to a site with no sign of this image. Hmmm.)

When I saw this adorable knitted record player on All The Beautiful Things I Want, I realized that my son Oliver will never know what a record player is. Or a cassette tape. Or even a compact disk for that matter. It got me thinking of other passé technology that he'll never know and how I can introduce it to him in a toy version. Just trying to keep the nostalgia alive.
And then there's the rotary phone. Or honestly, just a phone with a cord will be foreign to him! You can make your own with Caffa Knitted's Rotary Dial Telephone knitting pattern.

Do kids today even know what a typewriter is? Will the nostalgia of typewriter fonts keep them alive? There does seem to be a fascination with them in the design world, as proven by these ideas...

I wasn't sure exactly how to title this post without being uncouth. Ma Cacabane is the ultimate item ever for the more private youngster in our lives: an entertaining, well-designed porta-potty. Well, it's just the four walls, but it's the best thing I've ever seen!

I'm totally amazed at the cool effect this produces...Recyclart featured these basic jars striped with vintage zippers (I've been wondering what I could do with all of mine :). The repetitive texture makes for a unique surface; it almost looks like a gorgeous woven textile for a split second. To be honest, I've never explored the creative applications of zippers...now I'm intrigued...
